Capacity building for BBMP’s SWM Cell

Comprehensive modules developed to train BBMP’s newly appointed SWM team & rolled out over a 2 day workshop

Client: Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP)

Location: Bengaluru

Partner/Collaborators: BBMP’s SWM Cell

Project duration: June - July 2017

Status: Completed

As a part of its shift from a centralised solid waste management system to a decentralised one, BBMP set up a new organisation structure - the SWM Cell, to manage it. An engineer dedicated to SWM was placed at a zone and a division level (7-9 wards), apart from the already existing health inspector at a ward level. Therefore in order to train this new team, a 2 day workshop was organised by BBMP and curated by Sensing Local. The key aspects of the workshop were as follows:

  • 7 training presentations that included SWM rules 2016, Microplan, Data management & planning, Bulk generators, Citizen participation, Decentralised & Centralised processing facilities

  • On-ground site visits to understand the collection, transportation and processing of waste on ground

  • Information manual to understand the current Municipal solid waste management system of Bengaluru and the future strategy that has been charted out
